    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

Yesterday, I went to see the Chuck Jones exhibit at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens, NY. It was astonishing. They had a treasure trove of the master's work including a lot of rare pencil drawings that were the backbone of the classic toons that rock my world. I've scanned the limited edition lithographic print I bought of one of my all-time favorite toons. I had no business doing this, as I am pretty broke, but I got it at a discount and the exhibit is closing (Jan. 19 is the last day).

You can't take your wealth with you, so enjoy before someone does.

    Seriously, that is really nice!

I've always wanted a piece of Looney Tunes artwork like that--enjoy it.

Thanks, Thinice and Glowworm! I've got the print framed and the certificate in a safe place (which I'm sure to forget where!). The Chuck Jones extravaganza now goes on tour; next stop, the EMP Museum in Seattle. First the Super Bowl and now this? I wanna live in Seattle! And if you're already there, see this show! Really! See this! [wile][bugs][daffy]

Sadly, I would have been luckier in New York--I don't live anywhere near Seattle.

Holy Cow! I just looked it up, and it said that the exhibit will be in Ft. Worth, TX. My hometown! I'm saving my money now.

Yipe, you're right, Saltyboot!! In fact, the exhibit goes to Ft. Worth's Museum of Science & History next month, and THEN Seattle in June. Thank you for setting the record straight. [toast]

I think Hasbro made a licensed version of Looney Tunes Monopoly that had an anvil as one of the tokens, just about that size. There was also Marvin's disintegrator ray and a plunger box detonator. Too bad they couldn't work land mines into the game mechanics.

Yeah, I really enjoyed it. I liked the set up and seeing the original artwork of other animators as well as Chuck Jones. I also noticed the handwritten music of Carl Stalling and how it fits into the actions of the cartoon. I think this was the first time that I could actually read every note written. Typically, handwritten music is horrible to try and read.
