    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

Thanks, Pete. Now I've finally decided on the perfect one for tonight:

    1. I'm a friendly, but slightly grouchy avian.

    2. I welcome the arrival of a newborn prince.

    3. The word I use for a certain behavior has nothing to do with a social media site.

This must be Zazu the hornbill, acting majordomo (or so he claims) to Mufasa in Disney's The Lion King.

No, not him. Besides, he's already on the list. I was thinking of one way older than he.

    It's the owl from Bambi.

He's a bit grouchy, and he welcomes Bambi into the world.
He warns Bambi that he could be twitterpated. (not to be confused with Twitter)

Right, Saltyboot. It's Friend Owl, and for all the reasons you gave. So you're up again. Great job. :)

    Thanks.

At first I was doing really well.
I witnessed a lot of changes, and not for the better.
I always stand my ground. Not that I had a choice.

Why yes, it is The Little House.

She was a happy little house who saw a city develop around her. She never got bulldozed because she stood her ground. Well, she was a house so she really didn't have a choice.

    You're up peterhale!

A nice little film, despite the sugary sentimentality - I especially like the expressions on the faces of the other buildings!

Here's another character we haven't had yet...

    1) I am the star of a television show.
    2) The eponymous stars of the movies (and TV series) in which I appear are fans of my show - one of them in particular idolises me.
    3) I am a skilful actor - but in my TV episode it is revealed that I don't do my own stunts!

There's one I thought of who matches the clues, but not enough to be the right character. So maybe someone else knows the answer.

Aha, this is Flash The Wonder Dog (and Comrade Cockatoo, *squawk*) from the Chip 'N' Dale's Rescue Rangers episode of the same name.

    1) Flash has his own television show in-universe, complete with mask and cape. He does the Adam West-as-Batman stuff from the Sixties.
    2) The Rescue Rangers have seen the show. Dale, however, is almost an otaku fanboy over Flash. That is, until he learns the truth.
    3) And the truth is, Flash is just a TV actor. Another dog does his stunts for him. Which leaves Dale in a shattered-dream funk for a while.

Yeow! Not the character I was thinking of, but a darned good fit to the clues!

But I have to say "No" - Flash The Wonder Dog is one episode of the Rescue Rangers TV show, and clue 2 says "the movies (and TV series) in which I appear".

    But that was close!

    I checked on a "lucky" hunch(pun intended). It's Thunderbolt, from "101 Dalmatians."

    It is indeed Thunderbolt!

    1) In 101 Dalmatians (1961) the puppies are shown watching Thunderbolt on television, before they go to bed. In 101 Dalmatians II: Lucky's London Adventure (2003) the show has become The Thunderbolt Adventure Hour, and Lucky gets to meet his hero.

    2) All the puppies enjoy the show, but Lucky is the most enthusiastic. In the video movie sequel he reveals he knows all the episodes off by heart, and duplicates one of Thunderbolt's exploits when confronted by Cruella.

    3) In 101 Dalmatians: The Series Thunderbolt appears in the episode "Watch for Falling Idols", when the show comes to the dalmatian's farm for a location shoot, and Patch is shocked to discover that the German Shepherd is afraid of heights.

The depiction of London in 101 Dalmatians is pretty good, but the TV sequence contains one glaring Americanism. When the book was first published (1956) the only channel was the BBC, which made programmes financed by the licence fee all TV set owners had to pay. They did not carry advertising, indeed were forbidden to do so. By the time the Disney film was released we had a commercial channel as well (broken up into local regions), but it got its finance by selling advertising space only - in 5-minute breaks every 15 to 20 minutes - the programmes themselves were not sponsored. So the announcer's promotion of Krunchies Dog Food was completely alien to British viewers. (We do now have a form of "sponsorship", but it is superficial - advertisers can buy the right to attach a "sponsored by" ident before and after each part of an already popular programme - but they have no influence on the show, and do not directly fund it.)

Well spotted (pun intended again!) Em, and back to you!

Thanks, Pete. Now here's one that should be a no-brainer:

    1. I was created for a brilliant parody from my studio.

    2. I'm the only human female cartoon character to ever be mistaken for a male one.

3.. My hubby is a friend to you and me.
