    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

I know this one. It's from "Magical Maestro," a cartoon directed by the legendary Fred "Tex" Avery for MGM Studios in 1952. This would be the magician that was booted out of the theater when he pitched himself as an opening act for Poochini, the opera singer. His revenge is hilarious. :D

I think OUB's right. It didn't come to me until he mentioned it. *smacks self in the head* And this is one of my favorite cartoons, too!

Indeed, it's Mysto the Magician from "Magic Maestro"--one of my favorite Tex Avery shorts too. I figured Poochini would be a bit too easy, so I went with Mysto instead.

    1. Mysto wants to perform with Poochini on opening night. Naturally, Poochini kicks him out.
    2. Mysto replaces the conductor and uses his wand as a baton to cause magical mayhem upon the hapless Poochini.
    3. However, near the end of the cartoon, Mysto's wig starts to fall off, and Poochini immediately recognizes him. Turnabout is fair play.

Nifty, a Tex Avery character, always good for some laughs. Now, I need a fun character ... let's see, who's not taken yet?

    1) This character is in the public domain, and has had a number of adaptations. I'm thinking of a recent one, after year 2010.

    2) This character is part of a team of good guys, and actually slugs the villain of the story. Pow, right in the kisser.

    3) Oh, and this character is a girl ... well, female anyway. And she has a sizable and ornate base of operations, though it's not specified just where on Earth this place is. It helps a lot if you can somehow teleport to it.

I'm not sure about this, but I'll throw out this guess anyway.

Abigail "Granny" Puckett from Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil.

Wow, almost, oh so very very close. Only the detail that "Granny" Puckett's place is pretty accessible, walkway and mailbox and all makes this miss. Otherwise, dang, my ethics would compel me to award Saltyboot the point. So, that means that I must clue everyone in real sharp. Here goes:

    4) This character can fly. A lot. Her feet rarely touch ground. Likewise for her many many many underlings. However, this character and her minions can lose their power of flight if a terrible condition occurs.

    5) It'd be difficult to name this character's occupation without naming the character herself. Let me try anyway: she's an archivist.

    6) The team of heroes which includes this character acquires an apprentice, a padawan so to speak. This character gets pretty smitten with the n00b.

Ooooh, I got it now! It's Toothiana from Rise of the Guardians.

She's the tooth fairy who is in the public domain.
She's part of the team of guardians. She also punches the villain.
She has a huge base of operations.
She and her minions can fly. As long as people believe.
She gets a crush on Jack Frost.

Now this answer is completely, thoroughly, nose-to-tail correct. This is smilefully Toothiana from Dreamworks' Rise Of The Guardians. About the only thing left for me to explain is that Toothiana the tooth fairy and her oodles of minions collect the baby teeth from children and keep them neatly arranged in personalized golden cylinders. Anyone who keeps a collection that huge so gorgeously organized is called an archivist. In the real world, an archivist can earn $100,000 per year salary or more.

Another marvelous +1 to Saltyboot, plus the chance to watch my head explode with the next Mystery Character. :)

Thanks! Hopefully, this next character won't make your head go boom.

I'm named after the location I was found in.
At that location, there is a bronze statue of me.
My first TV series is a mix of 2D and 3D animation.

Had to check the list to make sure he wasn't already on it. It's Paddington Bear.

    Correct, it is Paddington!

He was found in, and named after Paddington station.
There is a bronze statue of him at the station.
Paddington was animated in 3D stop motion, while the other characters were in 2D.

    Take it away!

Thanks, Salty. Now here's another I've been waiting to post:

    1. I'm part of a devious, underhanded team.

    2. I appear in the only three-part episode of the original series.

    3. I guess you could say my name is both serpentine and slick.

Ok, I think these last three clues should clinch it:

    4. My team performs dangerous acrobatic stunts.

    5. Like all the other bad guys, I race against a demon on wheels.

    6. During the climax, I have a near fatal accident.

But the team's name is The Car Acrobatic Team.

OK - this is as obscure a character as a Californian 'toon can be!

    1) I was the star of 4 shorts, only 2 of which were ever completed.
    2) My studio ran out of funds after a year.
    3) My films never got distributed, although a print of one has been discovered.

Could this be Gerald from Perfect Hair Forever, a Williams Street production for Cartoon Network? It was slated to have seventeen episodes, but friction between its creators caused only seven to be made and only one actually aired. On Tuesday 1 April 2014, another episode finished production; some of these completed episodes can be found online.
