    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

Still stumped, regrettably. I'll keep my fingers crossed for whoever gets it.

OK, I think I got it. It's Dimitri from Anastasia.

Exactly, this is Dmitri from Anastasia. He starts out as a rogue, a huckster, a con man, scheming with Uncle Vladimir to audition young Russian women to find one close enough to pass off as Princess Anastasia, and coach this girl well enough to fool Grand Duchess Marie, who lives in exile in Paris, France. Awful as that is, it pales in comparison with the undead Grigori Rasputin, who seeks to kill the real Anastasia and fulfill his vicious curse.

Fortunately, during the audience with Princess Sophie, the orphan that Dmitri and Vladimir coached answered a question that only the real Princess Anastasia could know. So, instead of passing off a counterfeit princess on Grand Duchess Marie, Dmitri now seeks to reunite her with her long-lost granddaughter. Of course, this is Russian royalty we're dealing with, so much of the film transpires in Eastern Europe. Further, this film was produced at Sullivan Bluth Studios in Ireland, and screened through 20th Century Fox. The Big Three: Don Bluth / Gary Goldman / John Pomeroy all got their start at Disney, but broke away to form their own studio to create their vision of a Disney feature. Artists, oy!

That's another +1 to the knowledgeable SaltyBoot, and control of the board as well. Bravo on that memory. :)

    Thanks OUB!

    I make a grand entrance.
I kicked two students out of my program.
    I'm not easily impressed.

Oooh, methinks that Glowworm has nailed this one. Good deduction, GW. And kudos to SaltyBoot for tapping the Monsters University vein.

    Yep, it's Dean Abigail Hardscrabble.

She flies into a classroom and causes the lights to go out by flapping her wings.
She kicks out Mike and Sully for not having what it takes to be in her program. (they also broke her prized scream canister)
    She's not easily impressed.

I loved her design--it was elegant mixed with scary.

Anyhow, guess I got the reins now.

    1. Although we are seen as lesser known characters now, we were the main characters of a foreign comic.
    2. As many comics tend to do, some other characters were eventually introduced into our comic which lead to their own stardom.
    3. Respectfully, one of us has the title of hero, the other of sidekick.

Nope, not Tin Tin and Snowy--I doubt they lead to any spin off characters.

Of course! It's Johan and Pee Wee, or Peewit. I was never sure about the spelling.

    1. They started out as the main characters.

    2. Their strip introduced Les Schroumphs, or The Smurfs, and everyone knows the rest of the story.

3/ Johan's the hero, and Pee Wee/Peewit the sidekick.

Yep--it's Johan and Peewit from the Smurfs, although as you stated, they technically came first when it came to the comics. I kind of wish they kept dwelling on both of them in the cartoon, rather than eventually just having Peewit centered episodes.

Thanks, Glowworm. And now, just in time for the upcoming holiday:

    1. I owe my origin to a wartime experiment.

    2. I have a patriotic name, and a costume and shield to match.

    3. Along with several other superheroes, I was first animated in 1966.

    Glowworm, you're right again.

    1. Steve Rogers became Captain America during World War II, when scientists decided to create a super soldier.

    2. Self-explanatory.

    3. "The Marvel Superheroes" was produced in 1966. In addition to CA, there were also the first animated adventures of The Incredible Hulk, Submariner, The Mighty Thor, and Iron Man.

So it's your turn once again. Great job. :)

    Got one.
    1. I used to be a well known segment on Sesame Street.
    2. I live inside a cupboard.
    3. I help out children.

Sorry, can't think of any animated Sesame Street characters that match the clues.

Bingo! It's Teeny Little Super Guy.
"You can't judge a hero by his size. I'm just a teeny little super guy."

    1. I was born in the late 80's , so I easily remember seeing Teeny Little Super Guy segments on Sesame Street throughout my childhood. Sadly, these segments are not shown anymore.
    2. The introduction and ending always show Teeny Little Super Guy entering and exiting from the kitchen cupboard--which is his home--all the characters are drawn on drinking glasses and cups.
    3. He helps out kids--usually regarding such things as taking turns, and asking others if they can play.
