    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

Absolutely yes, this is Lady Greystoke from Disney's adaptation of Tarzan, created originally by Edgar Rice Burroughs. The first scene in that film is Lady Alice and her infant son being lowered in a lifeboat from a burning ship. Good memory, Glowworm. We once had a thread about marvelous mothers in animation. I'd intended to add Lady Greystoke, but thought the reasons behind my nomination would be too graphic and gory for a family forum.

Go ahead and collect another +1, Glowworm, and launch your delicious Mystery Character. :)

    Thanks.
    1. When it comes to great mothers--I am not one of them.
    2. In fact, I get someone else to watch over my child for me.
    3. I don't even plan to return!

This sounds like the lazy bird Mayzie.

Yes--I have no idea why I went with a bad mother instead of a good one--but I did.
Mayzie was a bad mother, but made for a great story and a great Looney Tunes short "Horton Hatches the Egg" which captures the flavor of Seuss' tale perfectly.
    1. The first thing we see Mayzie do is complain about being bored sitting on her nest.
    2. She drops her egg off with Horton, who proves to be a much better parent than Mayzie.
    3. Mayzie decides that she'll never return back to her nest.

    Okay....

My family and I are in a few shorts.
We have also been seen on a TV series.
In my first cartoon, I become smitten with someone other than my husband.

Ah, it must be Mama Bear from the "Three Bears" series of Looney Tunes shorts.

    1. They did appear in a handful of shorts.

    2. Can't recall seeing them in a TV series.

    3. In "Bugs Bunny And The Three Bears," she goes totally gaga for Bugs. "Tell me more about my eyes!" Classic!

Most likely, the tv series is Tiny Toons. There was a Teddy Bear picnic episode which featured the them.

Actually, I was referring to The Looney Tunes Show. I saw a portion of the episode.

Anyway, yes emeraldisle, it is Mama Bear.

Thanks, Salty. Now here's another one that's bound to be easy as pie:

    1. Officially, I'm the only cartoon mother to not give birth.

    2. In order to keep my son, I had to go to court.

    3. After the arrival of my little one, he, my hubby, and I were added to the show's opening and closing.

I'll say it's, Betty Rubble. Her and Barney found Bamm-Bamm and had to go to court to be able to adopt him.

    Yes, Salty, it's her.

    1. She didn't give birth to Bamm-Bamm. He was left on the Rubbles' doorstep.

    2. Just when it seemed they'd be able to adopt him, they had to fight Mr. Stonyfeller for custody. But they got him in the end, when Mr. Stonyfeller found out his wife was pregnant.

    3. It wasn't until Bamm-Bamm came along that the Rubbles accompanied the Flintstones to and from the drive-in movie. That, by the way, is my all-time favorite opening and closing.

So you're up again, Saltyboot. Great job! :)

    Oh no, not that bitch.
It's Lady Tremaine the stepmother from Hell--I mean Disney's Cinderella who gives all good stepmothers a bad image.

I didn't even know the woman had a name until I saw it in a book years later. She's a heck of a good villain--that dress shredding scene still upsets me till this very day.

Hmm, who shall I go with this time?
Well this one's been on my mind and will make up for my bad mother character from before.

    1. I don't have a name--but I am a mother all the same.
    2. The child I care for isn't of my species--but I love him like a true mother would.
    3. I teach my adopted son how to fly. It's a bit strange--but hey, this is a cartoon.

    4. I don't feed worms to my adopted son, I bring him milk.
    5. I'm a bird of prey, he's a domesticated animal known for being a pet.
    6. Basically I'm in a flashback of an explanation for another character's unusual boyfriend.

Got it. It's the mother eagle from Go Fly a Kit.

She adopts a kitten, feeds him milk and teaches him how to fly. A steward explains this to a businessman at an airport. Thus, the flashback.
