    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

    Here goes...

    1) I'm a cockney (more or less!).

    2) In my first screen appearance I am a Victorian chimney sweep.

    3) My second screen appearance is as a Victorian henchman.

Ah, I have the answer now. It's Bill The Lizard.

    1. He has a cockney accent.

    2. In Disney's "Alice In Wonderland", he's a chimney sweep.

    3. In "The Great Mouse Detective," he's one of Ratigan's henchmen.

And here's the character of the day:

    1. Despite my age, I'm able to travel wherever I want.

    2. Although I'm not in every episode, I follow six famous brothers and their dog on a global tour--which includes a visit to Ireland.

    3. I'm particularly obsessed with the one who went on to host a variety show with his sister, and claimed to be "a little bit rock and roll."

Well, there's only one series that fit this, but there's no mention of the character in question. Maybe I'm barkin' up the wrong tree.

Yes, Pete. That's it! Now to clear things up:

    1. Hortense Bird was an elderly woman, exact age unknown. But this didn't keep her from traveling.

    2. She followed the Osmonds and their dog Fugi on their global tour, which included a stop in Ireland. But she was only in a handful of episodes.

    3. She chased after Donny, who was only 14 when the series aired. I found the sight of him being chased by a woman old enough to be his grandma too funny for words. Later, of course, he and Marie hosted their own show on which he sang about being "a little bit rock and roll."

So you get yet another turn, Pete. Good job. :)

Hmmm... Who haven't we had yet...

    Aha!

    1) I suffered the ultimate penalty for acquiring a Bad Habit.
    2) I know my sister's secret identity.
    3) My award-winning first appearance was subsequently banned.

It's Chicken from Cow and Chicken.
    1. In "No Smoking" the pilot episode, Chicken goes to Hell for smoking.
    2. Cow is SuperCow, a Spanish speaking super heroine.
    3. "No Smoking" hasn't really been seen much on tv--due to the smoking I think.

    Yes, it's Chicken

to clarify the third clue: No Smoking, the What a Cartoon! short (which won an Annie in 1996) was later dropped by Cartoon Network both because it showed a minor smoking and because it depicted the Devil. In the subsequent series he is just "The Red Guy".

    A well-earned point, Glowworm.

Oh sure, it was banned because it depicted the Devil--and yet the Powerpuff Girls were allowed to have Him--who was also clearly the devil? ;) Amusingly enough, they weren't fooling anyone by calling him "The Red Guy." Even as a middle schooler, I clearly knew the Red Guy was supposed to be the devil.
I never actually saw this pilot episode--might have to look it up and see it.

Anyhow, I think I got one.

    1. I'm a lady chaser--but not a successful one.
    2. In a bumper segment, I admit that my hair color is not natural.
    3. There are two women in my life who actually do like me.

I'll guess Johnny Bravo by Efraim Giovanni Bravo Partiblé. He's a hopeless Casanova-wannabe, his "peak" is a wonder of hair styling, and only his mother and sometimes little Suzie tolerate him.

Indeed it's Johnny Bravo. I can clear up that second clue. Cartoon Network used to have these little segments in which Wonder Woman used her golden lasso of truth upon various cartoon characters. One of them featured Johnny shamefully confessing that he's not really blond.

Cool. Oh, surprise, here's a vein that has gone untapped. Time to break out the phlebotomy kit. :)

    1) This character has appeared in three animated feature films so far.

    2) Though not porcine in any way, this character is a ham. A large ham. Oh boy, whadda ham.

    3) This character has a close friend. Real close, as in nearby. Still friends, too ... even after this character tried to eat that friend.

I'd say this is Marty the zebra from the Madagascar films. No, I have no intention to watch them, and yes, I have that stupid "Circus Afro" song stuck in my head now.

It's more likely to be Alex the Lion.

    1. He's been in all three Madagascar films.

    2. He's definitely a ham.

    3. He, being a carnivore, attacks Marty in the first film when his predatory instincts get the best of him when he begins starving, and tries to devour him.

You're probably right, emeraldisle. I misread the wording of the third clue and thought it was that the character was being eaten by his best friend--not the other way around.
