    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

Can't figure it out for the life of me. Someone else has seen it, I'm sure.

    Final clues.
    7. I lure the hapless groom to be into my clutches with fire.
    8. Fortunately his honey comes to his rescue.
    9. Confidentially, she stings.

I've concluded that it's a female moth, but I can't find one that matches the clues.

Got it. It's the Black Widow Spider from Eatin' on the Cuff, or The Moth Who Came to Dinner.

The Spider is a man chaser.
    Obviously not a human.
She is after a moth who is on his way to get married.
The beginning and end of the short is in live-action.
The Spider lures the groom with a flame.
His fiance', who is a bee, comes to his rescue with her stinger.

I knew you'd figure this one out, Saltyboot as I consider you my equal when it comes to Looney Tunes knowledge. Anyhow, yes, it is the Black Widow Spider from Eatin' on the Cuff, or the Moth Who Came to Dinner. The one clue I should clear up is the 6th one. At one point, the Spider dresses herself up to look like Veronica Lake, but her nose keeps popping up from under her wig.

Thanks Glowworm, I actually haven't seen Eatin' on the Cuff until today. Not sure why though. Anyway, I'll try and post a character later tonight.

Oh, I had no idea you've never seen it. I first saw it at around 5 years old on Nickelodeon. I never saw it on television again until years later around either middle school or high school when Cartoon Network used to show loads of Looney Tunes on the weekend. Yet, the plot somehow remained within my mind for years. To me, it's an underrated classic, with the Black Widow Spider being the scene stealer of the short.

Yeah, that was a good cartoon and it's weird that I missed that one. Anyhooos, here is my character.

    I am a TV mascot.
My name means “hello,” or “thank you.”
I can't talk but my friends can.

Just found the answer. It's Domo.

Domo means both Hello and Thank You in Japanese, as in "Domo Arigato."

He's also a TV mascot in the land of the rising sun.

    He never says a word.

That is correct emeraldisle. It is Domo-kun, the mascot for NHK. His shorts just run for about a couple of minutes between shows.

Thanks, Saltyboot. Now here's another I decided on some time ago:

    1. Officially, I'm the first supervillain ever created for an animated sci-fi series.

    2. My adversaries are the title hero, a young cowboy, and a caveman.

    3. Regrettably, many original films of my show were stolen, and never recovered.

I don't know anything about supervillain/heros or sci-fi, so I have a lot of research to do.

Yes, Pete, you nailed it. Now to explain:

    1. Doctor Destructo was indeed the first supervillain created for an animated sci-fi animated series.

    2. His adversaries were Colonel Bleep, Squeak the young cowboy, and Scratch the caveman.

    3. When Miami-based Soundac Studios closed, a staffer there was loading the master tapes into a van, when the van was stolen. Neither it nor the tapes were ever recovered, and only a handful of episodes were saved, and eventually put on videotape and DVD.

So take a bow, Pete, and step up for your turn. Great job, as always. :)

It's been rumoured that Joe Barbera had a hand in creating Colonel Bleep - anyone know if that is true?

    Now try this:

    1) The star of my series keeps using my phone.

    2) The star of my series once named a baby after me.

    3) The star of my series once persuaded me to try a singing career, but I love my real job.

Way too easy, Pete. It's Officer Dibble, from Top Cat.

Hmm.. perhaps I'd better steer clear of H-B characters in future! Yes indeed, it is New York's funniest, Officer Charlie Dibble.

Clue explanations, for anyone who might still be wondering:

    1) Top Cat treats the Police call box in the alley as his private phone.
    2) In the episode T.C. Minds the Baby Top Cat names the abandoned baby Charlie, after Officer Dibble, on Benny's suggestion.
    3) In the episode Dibble Sings Again Top Cat contrives to manage Dibble's singing career to raise money to pay a debt.

Well spotted Em.. over to you!

Thanks, Pete. Now here's one who's definitely not an H-B character:

    1. I'm the only cartoon character whose name is written in all caps.

    2. Aside from my unusual body structure, I'm just an ordinary boy.

    3. Like a classic animated series about a boy and his talking dog, each episode of my show has a moral.
