    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

The Mystery Cartoon Character Game, ongoing-ier.

Thanks, Pete. Now here's one I didn't really plan on, but will post anyway:

    1. I'm the lady friend of the title hero.

    2. I have a most appropriate name for Valentine's Day.

    3. In fact, it's the same name as a classic Nicolette Larson song.

Ah, thanks for the song clue, otherwise I never would have remembered Lotta Love, paramour to Roger Ramjet from Snyder-Koren studios. If I recall her correctly, she had this absurd mop of Fifties hair that always obscured her eyes. Lotta strikes me as too high maintenance; let Noodles Romanov have her.

You're absolutely right, OUB. Lotta Love it is, and for all those reasons. So you're up again, good job, and Happy Valentine's Day. :)

Thanks, and good on you to tap Roger Ramjet's series, since the title character was also voiced by the late Gary Owens. This kind of puts the onus on me. Fine, away I go ...

    1) This character is a routine fixture in a regularly televised cartoon series that lasted two seasons.

    2) The late Gary Owens, voice of Space Ghost and Roger Ramjet among others, voices a character in the same series that speaks to this character. Their dialogue is terse and thorny as a rule.

    3) If a term had to be applied to this character, it'd be Hyper Competent Sidekick, since the fellow in charge has almost no leadership skills.

Sorry, but I'm stumped this time. Besides, it's time someone else had a turn, don't you agree?

Ooh, almost Saltyboot. However, his routine bungling makes Dynomutt a Hyper Incompetent Sidekick. Credit, though, for connecting Blue Falcon with Gary Owens; that kind of thinking is on the right track.
Very well, let's ice this one:

    4) This character is a good guy in the main universe. However, there is a parallel universe where this character's doppelganger is a scheming subversive villain.

    5) After being thrown out a window, this character ends up in the hero's arms. Well, one hero's arms, anyway. She seems to like it.

    6) This character is clearly fond of Eighties Hair. Perhaps a saucer of cream as well.

Callie Briggs, if I'm not mistaken.

Of course you're not mistaken. This is Calico "Callie" Briggs from Hanna-Barbera's SWAT Kats The Radical Squadron series, which ran two seasons. Gary Owens provided the voice for Commander Feral, chief of the Enforcers: police and military all in one. Feral regards the SWAT Kats as rogue vigilantes, while Callie Briggs regards them as personal heroes. These two tend to snarl and snipe at each other. Mayor Manx is a figurehead chief of Megakat City, content to play golf all day, while Callie Briggs is the one who keeps the place running.

The mirror universe Callie was in league with the villains, subverting the Enforcers for a cut of the action. When Molly Mange threw Callie out the mayor's office window, Callie was caught by Razor, who happened to be wingwalking on the Turbokat at the time. She seems to like being rescued by heroic guys in jet aircraft. And yes, that's Eighties Hair she has; no idea how she keeps it from falling into her eyes. And she's feline, like most other characters in the series.

Good going, Em, that'll add on another +1. Let's see who you pick as a Mystery Character. :)

Thanks, OUB. But since I can't think of perfect characters for Presidents' Day or Mardi Gras, I pass my turn to Saltyboot.

Thanks emeraldisle... I did some digging and found a doozie.

    I'm an unlikely superhero.
I got my powers from a cosmic storm.
As a result, I can morph myself into any molecular composition.

This sounds like James Norcross, a/k/a Super President, by DePatie-Freleng, the same people who gave us the Pink Panther.

Goodie, perhaps I can keep up with the theme.

    1) It's Presidents' Day; how apropos.

    2) No superpowers here, unless you count an indestructible stomach as a superpower.

    3) This character never made it on television, nor into theaters ... except one fateful theater.

Yes, this is one of the more obscure productions. Nonetheless, I'm sure we can ice this one:

    4) This character was created by the same pair that gave us Queer Duck.

    5) Comedian W. C. Fields made a career out of being pickled, since he portrayed his character as a pompous lush. Unfortunately, this character tends to be an arrogant drunkard, which is much harder to portray as endearing.

    6) One would think this character would've learned his lesson about heckling the performers on stage, but no ....

Yes, this is Hard Drinkin' Lincoln, by Reiss and Feinberg, originally a web cartoon on Icebox. It's a highly fictionalized account of a booze-powered presidency, which goes a long way toward explaining how politics works. ;)

Happy Presidents' Day, everyone. That's a fresh new +1 for EmeraldIsle, and control of the board. :)
