    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

The Mystery Cartoon Character Game, ongoing-ier.

all right then, let me see if I can come up with some more clues

    4. I'm one of nine main characters

    5. Like most "girly" toys of the 80's, I'm in a pink hue (but a darker shade than another pink character in the same franchise)

    6. I have a crush on our show's resident "blue boy"

Nine main characters? Could this be Lauren Faust's Milky Way and the Galaxy Girls? The series she created after Hasbro Capone'd her out of the My Little Pony franchise?

Nope. Apparently, you overlooked something about Clue number 1 in this regard.

Well, I looked up the Popples myself, and found out it's actually Prize Popple.

Thanks, Fluidgirl. Time for another no-brainer:

    1. I was created for the TV cartoons.

    2. I mispronounce my employer's name by inserting an extra letter.

    3. Due to my being another stereotype, I lost my accent in the 90's.

Here are the last three clues, since coming up with nine simply isn't possible:

    4. I mispronounce my own name, too.

    5. My boss has always had a sight problem, except when he plays literary characters.

    6. Despite the aforementioned voice change, I retained my stereotypical looks.

OK - this one I'm determined to get right!

It's Charlie, Mr Magoo's Chinese houseboy.
He inserts the letter "L" into into his dialogue, so his "bloss" becomes "Mr Magloo". He calls himself "Cholly".

    Here goes, then...

    1) My surname means nothing, although it came from from a king.
    2) I started out as a blonde, but in 1937 I made a comeback as a brunette.
    3) I was finally reincarnated as a mouse.

    Coming right up!

    4) I'm always in trouble, but it doesn't stop me singing.
    5) A bit like Betty Boop, in my first screen appearance I am an unnamed chanteuse - and this once I'm the predator, not the prey!
    6) I made a series of five shorts (not counting my first appearance) in 1933 (all based on the same stock comedy parody) and became a dog (because the hero was one - although my royal father is human!) in 1934. Then back to the formula in 1935. Then a couple more in my brunette (and less sexy) make-over in 1937. This list may not be complete, and of course does not include my later reincarnation as a different character!

I have the answer now, but I'll hold off and see if someone else figures it out.

I have absolutely no idea. Then again, teh 1930's were never my area of expertise, so . . . .

Well, seeing as how there were no takers, I'll provide the answer. It's Fanny Zilch.

Yes indeed, it's Terrytoons' melodrama heroine Fanny Zilch.

    1) In King Zilch (1933) - seemingly Terry's response to Van Buren's acquiring Soglow's The Little King - a blonde flapper showgirl sings to cheer up the king, then leads him off the straight and narrow ("Aww - give me a liddle kiss!" she pleads, and when the timid monarch says no she just giggles and drags him off to the parlour). In the first of the 'Oil Can Harry' singing melodramas, The Banker's Daughter, the same character is used for the title role, and the opening caption names her as Fanny Zilch. The other films are The Oil Can Mystery (1933); Fanny in the Lion's Den (1933); Hypnotic Eyes (1933); Fanny's Wedding Day (1933); The King's Daughter (1934) this time as a dog - at least, she has a black nose - because the hero appears to be Terrytoon's answer to Bimbo and Pooch; Foiled Again (1935).

    2) In 1937 Terrytoons gave Oil Can Harry another shot, this time with a more demure, brunette Fanny.

    3) And of course the whole singing melodrama thing was reworked for the Mighty Mouse series, with Pearl Pureheart taking Fanny's role.

Well done, Emeraldisle! You're up again...
