    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

    4. At one point, they let me up on their spot in exchange for my bucket.
    5. My stay on there isn't very long though. I'm shooed off again.
    6. The movie I'm in is the sequel to the first one.

Wow, I'm blanked on this one. A bucket? Makes nebbish this character cool-worthy? If I'd seen this guy, I'd've remembered him.

Sorry, there's a whole lot o' nothin' in my head.

And I thought this one was gonna be a cinch... Sorry for the delay--I've been worried about my mother who isn't doing too well in the hospital.
    7. The first movie it was "Mine! Mine Mine!" this time it's "Off! Off! Off!"
    8. The other two take my bucket to use as transportation for two fish on a quest to get inside a hospital.
    9. Did we mention my unibrow?

Well, this means it's a character from Pixar's Finding Dory, the sequel to Finding Nemo. The seagulls have a fixation on claiming anything they see, saying "Mine!" with Hive Mind uniformity. I've never seen Finding Dory, so I can't pinpoint which seagull has the bucket that makes him non-outcast for a short while.

If no one gets this by tonight, I'm revealing the character. It's not a seagull, but you've pinpointed the movie, OUB.

Thank you! This is Gerald the sea lion from Finding Dory. There are two other sea lions, Fluke and Rudder who won't let Gerald go up on their rock. Every time he tries to, they'll scream "OFF! OFF! OFF!" at him, kind of like the seagulls from the first film saying "MINE! MINE! MINE!" At one point, they make a "deal" with him. If he gives them his green bucket, so Marlin and Nemo can be transported to the fish hospital by Becky, they'll let him up on the rock. Of course, Gerald only gets to stay on the rock for a few seconds before they chase him off it again.

Thanks, Glowworm. Time to slip once again into mature subjects with this character:

    1. I'm heard, but never seen in a live action spinoff.

    2. Despite this, I became the title character of a long forgotten animated special.

    3. My voice actor most famously voiced a lasagna eating kitty.

I can only provide three more clues:

    4. I'm a perennial drunk.

    5. I set to replace a friend's dead dog.

    6. Whether it's my birth name or my surname, I share my name with a guy who sang about an everlasting love and a bad mama jama.

I thought this one would be easy. The answer is Carlton The Doorman.

    1. On "Rhoda" he never appeared onscreen.

    2. Self-explanatory.

    3. In both live action and animation, he was voiced by Lorenzo Music, the voice of Garfield.

    4. Self-explanatory.

    5. When a friend's dog dies, he goes looking for a replacement, and is actually seen onscreen for the first and last time.

    6. He shares his name with Carl Carlton, best known for his remake of "Everlasting Love," and "She's A Bad Mama Jama."

I guess I'll post an easier character later on.

Hopefully, these characters will be easier:

    1. Like many others, we were animated only once to help a dog and four meddling kids solve mysteries.

    2. Sadly, at the time of our animated debut, our marriage began to unravel.

    3. But at least one of us believed in life after love.

Nice. And as long as I've got your ear here: which was that Lorenzo Music special? IMDb lists a Carlton Your Doorman and a Carlton, but these seem like live-action productions. Was there actually an animated Rhoda?

Anyway, time for another character, a cute female one. :)

    1) This character occurs first in an animated feature film. Completely animated, no real live goofballs in this one. Then came an animated series as a spin-off.

    2) This character is female, but not human. Still cute, though.

    3) She's sort of the Princess Leia of the story: leader of a resistance movement seeking to escape from a cruel regime. She succeeds with help from the Reverse Mole.

In response to your question, OUB, yes there was an animated special about Carlton, but the main cast of "Rhoda" was conspicuously absent. Most people don't remember it, as it aired only once in 1980.

    Intermediate clues time:

    4) This character comes later in the story, well after the main characters have abandoned their old home and settled into a new one.

    5) Normally, a fertile female such as this character would end up with one of the bigger and stronger characters. In this case, she finds herself paired with the group's dwarfish oddball.

    6) My chance to be topical: this character's voice actor read her lines alongside the late Sir John Hurt.

Ah, it could very much be Hyzenthlay from Watership Down by Nepenthe Studios, because it is. She's a rabbit, a doe rabbit (yes, that's the term; males are bucks), and she approaches the Council of Efrafa about starting a splinter colony. General Woundwort and his thugs won't hear of it. It's not until Bigwig infiltrates Efrafa that Hyzenthlay sees hope for a breakaway. She pairs up with Fiver, smaller brother to Hazel, because both are psychic rabbits, able to catch glimpses of the future somehow. Her name comes from lapine hy + zen + thlay = shine + dew + fur, fur that shines like dew. Good gleaning, Em. :D

Thanks, OUB. Now for another set of clues:

    1. We're not squirrels like the other rodents.

    2. In our movie, none of us see our shadows.

    3. There will be a sequel later this year, and we will return along with the purple squirrel.

    Three more clues:

    4. We're a trio of siblings.

    5. Our individual names all begin with the same letter, but collectively, we have an injurious name.

    6. Our species' holiday is tomorrow.
