    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

The Mystery Cartoon Character Game, now with 20% more ongoing.

Shouldn't there be more clues by now?

Oooh, right. Forgot it was me at the podium. Now, who was this, again? Oh, yeah, now I remember.

    4) Fair Play Rule: this character is not human. Speaks English, works for a living, tries to stay out of trouble, and fights evil every so often ... but not human.

    5) This character has five close associates. Or six, if you count the Team Pet.

    6) Kind of like Batman in the Justice League: no superpowers, can't fly, can't fling magic. This character just goes and does the doin's that need doing.

    *facepalm* Cupcake clues time.

    7) Female, definitely.

    8) Nekkid, except for her nice hat and a couple of hair ribbons. Not a problem, though: Barbie Doll Anatomy.

    9) No connection with Kellogg's cereal of the same name.

Oh, how on Earth could I be so stupid? It's Applejack, from "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic."

Oh, thank Heaven. Yes, this is the Earth pony Applejack, from the fourth generation of Hasbro's My Little Pony franchise, specifically, the Friendship Is Magic iteration designed by Lauren Faust.

Um, is my clue-giving really that bad? I mean, it's expected to describe a character somewhat sideways, so that it's not immediately obvious. Perhaps I was too oblique? :bag:

Thanks, OUB. And your clue giving isn't as bad as you think. So now I step up with these clues:

    1. Aside from the family dog, I'm the only regular character who isn't human.

    2. I'm seen more often in the 80's iteration.

    3. In my first appearance, I clobber the boss with a pineapple upside down cake.

    Three more clues:

    4. I'm absent from the show's opening, but not the closing.

    5. In one episode, I fall for one of my kind, and vice versa.

    6. I'm actually modeled after a live action human domestic.

Okay, that's enough niceness. This is Rosie the Robot from Hanna-Barbera's The Jetsons series. In fact, she's introduced in the first episode, when Jane decides she needs help with the housework. And just think: if it'd been George picking robot maids, the Jetsons would have that curvy French model instead. Oh-la-la!

Thanks. Oh look, a job half done. Fixing Time!

    1) This character first appeared in a completely animated feature film. That film spawned an animated television series, then a live-action adaptation. This character migrated into both of those productions.

    2) The closest associate of this character has already been tapped as a Mystery Character. Now, this character himself gets the spotlight.

    3) This character is the taller of the two, the one that does most of the talking, and the one that mostly does the driving. I'd call him the "brains" of the outfit, except he isn't; someone much more evil is.

Aha! This has to be Jasper Badun, from 101 Dalmatians - the 'Abbott' to brother Horace's 'Costello'. They are the henchmen of Cruella De Vil.

Yes, that's spot on, this is Jasper Badun, partner to Horace, from 101 Dalmatians. Just out of curiosity, how do we know they're brothers? "Badun" seems to me to be an elision of "bad 'un," that is, "bad one." Plus, such a disparity in height, and I must wonder how they're related. Welcome back, sir, by the way. :D Do take control of the game board, whilst I append a fresh +1.

Their surname, like Crualla's, is deliberately descriptive. In the book 'Horace' was called Saul. I had always assumed they were brothers, and they are referred to as brothers on several websites.

Now here's another character not yet on the list...

    1) I am a miliary officer who once fought in a human army - which is why I now have no time for humans.
    2) I am the commanding officer, but my wife is prone to insubordination.
    3) I am initially unwilling to search for the hero of the feature.

I know this one. It's Colonel Hathi, from "The Jungle Book."

    It is indeed Colonel Hathi.

    1) He recalls his days fighting in the Maharajah's 5th Pachyderm Brigade.
    2) Winifred has no time for his pomposity.
    3) He refuses to interrupt his patrol to go looking for the mancub, until Winifred chides him with "what if it were our son?"

Well spotted, Emeraldisle - I did think that one was going to last a little longer!

Thanks, Pete. Now for another mystery character from my all -time favorite studio:

    1. I'm a blonde female.

    2. I'm also a boy's twin sister.

    3. Our adventures begin in a cave off the coast of Maine.

I thought this would be a no-brainer. No more clues after these:

    4. I guess you could say I'm a stranger in a strange land.

    5. I embark on a series long quest without completing it.

    6. In times of trouble, my bro and I "ring up" the title character.

At last, I dig through the cobwebs in my head and lock in on Nancy, sister to Chuck, who discovers the two halves of a magic ring. When the halves are united, it summons the genie named Shazzan.
