    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

Well, that narrows it down to the trippy Yellow Submarine. Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band got taken out early during the Blue Meanie invasion. It's been awhile since I've seen this one, I'll speculate the first quote comes from the Supreme Blue Meanie, and the second comes from his minion Meanie, who gets rather rapt up in the moment. I expect the fool got a whammy from his boss, the way that one Nerdluck chirped "Nice shot" while within swatting distance of Swackhammer. Very bad career move, dude.

No worries, SB. Your quote citing is fine; it's my rusty head that's the problem. :) Ah, here's a fun exchange between two colorful characters:

"Let me out, let me out!"
"Let me in, let me in, let me in!"

Aha! Found it. It's Zazu and Timon, from "The Lion King."

Precisely! The "let me out" part comes from Zazu, kept bottled in a rib cage in Scar's den. The "let me in" part comes from Timon, desperate to stay out of some hyenas' jaws. Good sleuthing, Em. :)

Thanks, OUB. Time for another completely untapped one:

"Pagans, Crom worshippers..., It is with the strength of our walls that they will come to trust the strength of our faith."

Hint: A religious man from an animated film set in Ireland. And a dark one at that.

I thought this one would be easy for those who saw it. The answer is Abbott Cellach, from "The Secret Of Kells."

Never actually saw this one; I thought it was an indie movie, like Delicatessen. I've got to start reading Variety more ...

Well. my intention was to post a quote from an animated film set in Ireland that didn't mention leprechauns, gold, shamrocks, or Irish pub food. Looks like I'll have to post a better one than that, so here I go:

"I'll have Belle for my wife! Make no mistake about that!"

I have seen Secret of Kells actually, just didn't have time to look up who actually said the quote.
As for this one, it's Gaston from Beauty and the Beast.
No one falls from a tower and dies like Gaston.

Yep, that movie was my childhood--don't really feel that excited towards the live action version truthfully. Why mess with something that was so good to begin with? Oh yeah, to make more money. ;)

Oops, I almost forgot about this quote. It's Louie talking to Heathcliff in, Dough Ray Me-ow.

Correct. How exactly does one forget how to breathe? It also amuses me that this has clearly happened more than once.

I recognize this one now that I'm awake: it's the elf / gnome / grunky little guy in charge of "activating" the flora at the start of Spring in Bill Hanna's first known directorship of a cartoon, To Spring at Hugh Harman and Rudof Ising studios in California. Somewhere deep in the Earth is this wonderous lever that moves oodles of primary colors to the surface, transforming the dormant brush from brown and grey to vibrant colors. In this particular cartoon, Winter seems intent on sustaining its icy grip.

Yes, that's correct! Since yesterday was the first day of spring, I thought this cartoon would be a good one to use.
