    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

Didn't take long to find it. It's Commander Ulysses Feral, from "SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron." He says this to the Metallikats when they offer to reveal the heroes' identities.

Yes, it is Commander Feral. But "take long to find it"? From a Hanna-Barbera aficionado? Up to that point, Feral had been a pompous jerk and an obstructive bureaucrat; his switch-off of the Metallikats was a Crowning Moment of Awesome. I know I won't forget it. ;)

Thanks, OUB. Time for another no-brainer:

"But Your Majesty, these are carpet tacks."

"Oh? Well, they're tea tacks now!"

How did I know you were going to do this one?
It's from "Yankee Doodle Bugs." The King of England wants a worker to place the tacks in the colonists tea. The worker protests with that quote, and the King replies with the second line.

    Yeah, very appropriate.
Here's one also from a cartoon appropriate for this holiday.
    "You'll never take me awive!"

I think I wecognise the voice of Elmer Fudd, starring in "Ant Pasted",whose efforts to set off fireworks are foiled by a group of ants.

Indeed, this is Elmer Fudd from "Ant Pasted." However, the reason the ants are going after Elmer is because he's deliberately throwing firecrackers at the ants. Elmer, you have some issues, man.

Yeah, between ants, ducks, and of course, wabbits, Elmer would probably be a poor spokesperson for the Humane Society.Anyway, in keeping with the holiday, here's hoping everyone has (or had) a safe and sane 4th of July. Although there's some kids who disagree with me----''Aw who wants to be safe?'' ''Yeah, and who wants to be sane?''

Those lines were spoken by Popeye's nephews, in the short "Patriotic Popeye."

Thanks, Bill. Here's a good one to close out today:

"Avenger means more to me than you could possibly know. But nothing in this world could ever make me sell out my country."

Well, this is obviously Birdman, adapted from the comics by Hanna-Barbera Studios. Avenger is Birdman's trusty sidekick, and from the context, has been taken hostage by a villain. No idea which one, though; sorry. :(

Yes, OUB, it was Birdman, from the episode "Avenger For Ransom." The villain in that one was Zardo. BTW, Birdman did appear in comic books, but not until after the show premiered--his cartoons were made for TV, just like Space Ghost and the others from HB. Good job, just the same. :) So you get the first post-holiday quote.

Post-holiday? Sorry, got nothin' like that, just the basic sour-grapes griping.

"We need new agents. We're getting screwed."

Exactly, Glowworm, this is Daffy's response to Bugs Bunny asking, "Y'know all those toys and mugs and T-shirts with our pictures on them? You ever see any money from that?" Good memory, GW. :)

Ah, that's why Daffy is saying that. I haven't seen Space Jam in quite some time, but somehow I remember that quote.
"Take the crown, it's yours, my son. I hope you don't mind the dents. I got it on sale at a discount store, cost me all of seven cents."

Don't know this one, though it sounds like something straight outta Dr. Seuss.
