Peter Morris To Perform Tom & Jerry Music

The BBC Proms will see a night of firsts on Monday 26th August, with the performance of music from the famous Tom & Jerry cartoons arranged by Surrey's Peter Morris.

This is the first time the music of Scott Bradley - composer for 113 cartoons during the golden era of the series - has been played at the Proms. It is also the first time Peter has had an arrangement commissioned for the Proms, and the first time a work by a member of the University of Surrey School of Arts has been used during the famous summer concert series at the Royal Albert Hall.

The arrangement will be played by the John Wilson Orchestra, whose performances are always among the most popular in any Prom season. A recording of the concert will be broadcast by BBC Four on Friday 30th August.

"Like millions of other people, I grew up watching Tom and Jerry cartoons," commented Peter. "The music always fascinated me but it wasn't until my research into the composer, Scott Bradley, that I realised how well crafted it was. I've written about Bradley's work in the past few years and was thrilled when the esteemed conductor, John Wilson, asked me to put together a suite of Bradley's music for his BBC Proms performance this year.

"I'm delighted to give people the chance to hear some of Bradley's best music, played by one of the UK's top orchestras. I hope more people will get to know Scott Bradley's name as a result of John's performance."

The BBC Proms, also known as the Henry Wood Promenade Concerts, are an annual series of classical concerts that take place each summer at London's Royal Albert Hall and other venues around the UK.
