    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

The Mystery Cartoon Character Game, ongoing-ier.

Still don't have it. It's hard to think of any that fit the clues.

It dawned on me--however, if I am correct--I can't take the next turn. I'll be away on vacation from 4/18-4/28 on a cruise.
It's Leopold from "Birth of a Notion"
    1. Daffy wants shelter for the winter, Leopold is certain his master won't like this--but reluctantly complies as Daffy did "save" his life.
    2. Peter Lorre, Leopold's master needs the wishbone of a duck.
    3. In the end, Lorre wants to substitute a dog's wishbone instead for his experiment.
    4. "I'm Leopold, remember? Some part I've got in this picture. Phooey."
    5. "I didn't know Leopold could dance." (My favorite part in this short.)
    6. Yeah, Leopold's a dog, Peter Lorre is human--although definitely a deranged one.

Yes, you are absolutely correct and for all the reasons stated.
Since Glowworm can't use her turn, I guess the first person to post is it.

    Guess I'll go again then.

    1. I awaken after a long sleep.

    2. Although I exist in spirit form, I can become an ordinary human when exposed to harmful elements.

    3. I bring my new friends to my island after "ringing" them up.

I really thought this one would be easy. These are the last three clues:

    4. My young recruits come from five different parts of the world.

    5. My personal adversary is one who leaves Earth to conquer other planets.

    6. I actually die in an alternate time line when of the team decides to go back in time and quit.

Could this be Captain Planet, from the Turner Animation series aimed at eco-awareness?

Ok, I know the answer but can't do a character today. If no one answers tonight, I'll put up the answer.

Ok, I believe the answer is Gaia.

Yes, Saltyboot, it's Gaia. Now to explain:

    1. The series began with her waking up from a long sleep when Hoggish Greedily and Rigger threatened the planet.

    2. She's the spirit of the Earth, but in several episodes, she became human.

    3. She sent rings to each of the Planeteers, and brought them and Suchi to Hope Island.

    4. Self-explanatory.

    5. Her personal adversary was Zarm, another spirit of the Earth, who left to conquer other planets, and then returned to dupe the Planeteers into causing mass destruction. He appeared in many other episodes after that.

    6. In the two-parter, "Two Futures," when Wheeler returned to the past to avoid joining the team, Gaia perished when Hoggish Greedily and Rigger took over Hope Island. Luckily, Wheeler was able to fix that.

So you're up again, Saltyboot. Good job. :)

Ok, I got an easy one. (well... to me at least)

Oh no! I have a flea!
If I keep scratching, my owner will give me a bath.
I say a line that was expected to be cut, but wasn't.

Aha, I remember this one: it's that Willoughby look-alike dog from "An Itch In Time" directed by Bob Clampett. The poor dog gets infested by that mooching A Flea, but dares not scratch. If he does, his master, Elmer Fudd, will give him a dreaded bath, which cartoon dogs hate almost as much as cartoon cats. The line this dog speaks is "I'd better cut this out; I might get to like it." He says this while scooting on the carpet. Clampett and his team were expecting the Hays Office to censor this scene out, but were surprised when the cartoon came back unedited.

Oh, goodie, I've been meaning to foist this character on yous guys, and so I shall. (maniacal laughter)

    1) This character has appeared only once to date in a feature film. This character didn't die, and his creator is still alive, so a recurrence is possible. Unlikely, but possible.

    2) Studio figureheads routinely open an animated feature, while secondary characters close it: Tinkerbell closes for Walt Disney Pictures; Porky Pig closes for Warner Brothers Entertainment. This character was the closing character in his film, likely meant as a production company mascot.

    3) Definitely a good guy, since this character works for law enforcement. Of course, cartoon characters often break the Laws of Physics, so Civil Law must get walloped. Nonetheless, this character takes his shiny badge and six-chamber revolver, and marches forth to keep the peace.

Time for more clues. Let's get this one, because I'm at my limit for unsolved characters. :)

    4) This character is secondary to the lead lawman, almost a sidekick, though the two are rarely together on screen. Even more unusual is that this character was likely on the police force long before the leading man was recruited, yet he's #2 to the new guy.

    5) What kind of character is this deputy? A lot like Barney Fife from the old "Mayberry RFD" television series. Talkative, tremulous, and woefully unsuited to the job. In fact, after adding bullets to his service revolver, it discharges when he holsters it. Ow.

    6) Oh, and this character's film isn't completely animated; there's live actors in it, too.
