    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

I haven't a single, solitary clue. Maybe someone else knows.

So much for our computer-free week - didn't last a day!

This sounds like Peter Quince from A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Voiced by Pete Postlethwaite in the Shakespeare: the Animated Tales series. (A very poor adaptation of the play.)

Yes, you are correct about the character. However the adaption I was using was the Czech stop motion version, A Midsummer Night's Dream (1959) directed by Jiří Trnka. I almost put in "stop motion" as one of the clues but decided not to (don't know why... I was tired).

    BTW- I wouldn't last a day without the computer/internet either.:wideyed:

I recognised that the clues referred to Shakespeare's 'rude mechanicals', and when I Googled the play the first animation to come up was the TV series - I quite forgot about the exquisite Trnka version!

I've checked this time - this character is not on the list!
    1) I am the eldest of a quartet.
    2) I have more in common with our real-life species than my companions - they were designed with a feature our species does not have.
    3) I wish to know what activity we will undertake.

Could this be Buzzy from "The Jungle Book?" Is that his name? I can never keep the name of the vultures straight in that movie, except for Flaps. Though the bit with Buzzy and Flaps is one of my favorites:

B: So what we gonna do?
F: I dunno. Whacha wanna do?

Now that makes sense actually--as only one of those vultures was bald.

    Buzzie.jpg JPatOMalley.jpg

You nailed it, FluidGirl - it is Buzzie the vulture from The Jungle Book.

The influences on the vultures are an odd mixture. The other three (Flaps, Ziggy and Dizzy) were modelled after the Beatles, with long, floppy hair, and although plans to have the Fab Four do the voices never materialised they still have a vaugue hint of the Liverpool accent. Buzzie, however, is modelled after his voice talent, J Pat O'Malley - who gives him a sort of cockney-ish accent. Although Buzzie also has hair (!) it is short and thin, and he is closer to the baldness of real vultures.

When they sing, it is as a barbershop quartet rather than a pop group.

And the "Hey, Flaps, what we gonna do?" "I don't know. What you wanna do?" routine comes from the 1955 film Marty, with Ernest Borgnine and Joe Mantell:

Angie: What do you feel like doing tonight?
Marty: I don't know, Ange. What do you feel like doing?
Angie: We're back to that, huh? I say to you, 'What do you feel like doing tonight?' And you say back to me, 'I dunno. What do you feel like doing tonight?' Then we wind up sitting around your house with a couple of cans of beer watching the Hit Parade on television.

I always thought Dizzy looked a bit like Multi Man from The Impossibles because of the hair. Then again, the Impossibles had heavy Beatles influences themselves anyway. Let me see, I hope someone can come up with this one in three clues. I don't know if I'd be able to do six.

    1. Once more, we are back to Fluid Girl's toy box

    2. I'm from the 1986 series incarnation of my franchise

    3. I'm almost just like my mommy, except I can't seem to get a grasp on the special skill she, and others of my species, have

It's clearly one of the baby ponies from "My Little Pony," but there are so many of them I can't find the right one.

No, not Baby Lofty. Good guess, though. Since I'm going out of town until Sunday, I'll make these next clues easy.

    4. I'm a unicorn

    5. It's the one thing all unicorns do that I have a problem doing

    6. In one episode, I imagined a toy ball was my good luck charm

Yep, it's Baby Ribbon all right, specifically from "My Little Pony 'n Friends." Funny how I came up with using her. I was trying to think of a character when I happened to look over at my MLP collection, and Baby Ribbon happened to be the first pony I saw on the shelf.

Thanks, Fluidgirl. I have a real good one this time:

    1. I'm the head of my church.

    2. I'm captured as bait for the protagonist.

    3. My voice actor took over as a kiddie show host, and later played a guy who defeated aliens with a ......harmonica!

Yes, it's Friar Tuck from Disney's Robin Hood.

The first two clues are self-explanatory. For clue three, he was voiced by Andy Devine, who took over as host of "Smiling Ed And The Buster Brown Gang," in the late '50's. The show was retitled "Andy's Gang" as a result. Then in the "Twilight Zone" episode "Hocus Pocus And Frisby," he KO'd the aliens who abducted him just by playing his harmonica-very amusing.

So it's your turn again, Salty. Great job. :)

And in case you were wondering, my reason for picking a character from Robin Hood is that that movie shows what happens to those who don't pay taxes.

    Thanks! So... here's mine.

    Here are three more.

I'm not happy with my roll in the cartoon.
I surprised my roommate with a talent.
I'm not human, but my roommate is.
