You WIll Need To Reset Your Password!!!

We just moved hosts on this system, and this has caused a few updates. One is the way we encode and store the encoded passwords.

Your old passwords will NOT work. You will need to reset your password. This is normal. Just click on reset password from the log in screen. Should be smooth as silk to do...

    Sorry for the hassle.

    Other Side Of Maleficent

I have been looking forward to Maleficent with equal amounts of anticipation and dread. On one hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, so cold and so pure, and I want desperately to see more of her and her back-story. On the other hand, she is easily my favorite Disney villain, and I would hate to see her parodied, taken lightly or ultimately destroyed in a film that does not understand this great character. The good news is that this film almost gets it right; but that is also the bad news.

    Disney To Feast In France

The follow up to Disney’s 2013 Academy Award Winning short Paperman has been announced, and it will premiere at France’s Annecy International Animated Film Festival. Titled The Feast, the short looks to be based on the same stylized CG techniques used on last years Paperman, a more natural and hand-drawn look to computer animation.

    Renegades of Animation: Pat Sullivan

Pat Sullivan became famous worldwide for his creation of Felix the Cat. What most animation histories gloss over is Sullivan’s checkered past and longtime standing as a wildcat renegade. He didn’t follow the rules. And he made damn sure to fully protect his intellectual properties.

Hanna-Barbera Underscores released?

I noticed there have been underscores for various Hanna-Barbera cartoons released to the public in the last decade or so.

    Among them include:

    "Yogi Bear"
    "The Flintstones"
    "Jonny Quest"
    "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!"

I am aware that many of the background music cues were likely recycled in other Hanna-Barbera toons.

I am also surprised that there is no soundtrack for "Top Cat", though it's possible that many of the underscores on that series were previously used in other toons.

Are there any other Hanna-Barbera cartoon soundtracks that have been released to the public, other than the aforementioned above?

I hope this is a sign that there may be soundtracks for "Superfriends", "Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels", "Smurfs", "Pac-Man" and "Richie Rich" someday. There doesn't seem to be very many H-B soundtracks left to release, assuming that many cues that are not exclusive to a specific show, got recycled on other series. Plus, there were fewer and fewer new H-B toons towards the end of the 1980s, and even fewer in the 1990s, as if H-B was a dying company by that point.

I also think some of the music used in the "Little Rascals" cartoon would possibly qualify for a release, if used on other cartoons and not exclusively to "The Little Rascals". The chase music heard in "The Little Rascals" was recycled in "Shirt Tales", "The Gary Coleman Show", and Season 4 of "Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo". The very beginning of the Rascals episode "Science Fair and Foul" had an underscore that was also heard at the beginning of a segment on "Shirt Tales", at least that's what I found out.

The ones mentioned as having been released to the public are from Sixties series, which have all outlived their copyright, so holding onto those would be pointless. Series from the Seventies are close to their copyright limit, so I'd expect these to come out soon, just quietly. There usually isn't much fanfare for production materials. "Little Rascals" might be a trickier thing, since Hanna-Barbera doesn't own the concept, just a license to the animated adaptation. Further, what used to be Hanna-Barbera Studios became Cartoon Network Studios, then were folded into the Warner Family Media Group. At this point, it might prove tricky sifting out the original H-B sound effects from the glorious WB pile.
